Room treatment plays a major part for any type of studio. Acoustic treatment and sound proofing should be wisely considered when creating a studio. Many artist and bands do not relies that soundproofing and acoustic treatment can make and break any project.
We all had echo problems and extra sounds in the background of great vocal takes. Even having dry vocals being to flat is a major problem for many home studios. Spending a small amount of money treating your studio can often be great investment. Let us now look at room treatment.
Acoustic And Soundproofing?
Acoustic treatment deals with the acoustic quality of the room from the listener's perspective. This means if you correctly acoustically design your playback room, its likely to be accurate than the same recording played back over the sames speakers in an untreated room.
Soundproofing is designed to increase the overall acoustic isolation between the studio and the outside world. Basically cutting down on background noises that leaks into the studio. There are so many ways to soundproof a room in order to keep unwanted noises out.
Common Soundproofing Methods
- Egg crates and acoustic foams will improve some aspects of a room's acoustics. They mainly break up the reflections from hard surfaces and is virtually useless for soundproofing a studio. The egg crate, acoustic foams, and suspended ceiling method is main used for acoustic treatment. Meaning getting rid of reflected noised that may occur in your studio.
- Doubling your wall mass is a great way to soundproof your studio. Generally speaking, a room could never be 100% soundproof because frequencies. You may can isolate the Hi's and Mid's but you may have bass to worry about. For example, hearing the bass only outside of a club.
- The best way to soundproof a studio on budget is to provide as many layers between the studio and the outside world. We have seen studio do this in the booth around the mic. Many studios use a partition wall with at least three layers of mass to isolate unwanted frequencies.
- But there is always a degree of accurate mixing in the play back room. Acoustic treatment in the play back room is recommended for a better overall mix. Some studios uses plasterboard-covered studding walls.
